In Memory of Lawrence Mangan
Lawrence John Mangan, 84, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Clare (LaBrie) Mangan, died peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in New Britain, CT, on August 15, 1940, son of the late William F. and Evelyn (Smith) Mangan.
Larry grew up in Kensington. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and went on to attend St. Anselm College. He served our country with the U.S. Marine Corps, during Vietnam conflict. Larry married the love of his life, Clare LaBrie, on February 20, 1965, and they lived in Farmington, Southington, and Shelton, before moving to South Windsor in 1980.
He worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. for over 30 years and retired in 2002. He enjoyed spending time at his home in Burnham, Maine on Lake Winnecook/Unity Pond where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and golf. He was an avid sports fan cheering on the Boston Red Sox and the UConn sports teams.
Larry will be remembered by his family and friends as a compassionate, humorous, clever, knowledgeable, calming, and loving man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Along with his wife of over 59 years, Clare, he leaves his children, Gayle M. Kassal and her husband Peter of Annapolis, MD, Christine M. Cooney and her husband Kevin of South Windsor, and Brian L. Mangan and his wife Malini of Plantation, FL, his sisters, Ann Marie Wells and her husband Donald of Clinton, and Karen King and her husband Kenneth of Southington, six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mangan, Sarah Cooney, Collin Kassal, Simran Mangan, Liam Mangan, and Skye Kassal, and two great grandchildren, Kayden Lawrence Mangan, and Kaylani Mangan.
