Septic Smart Page

Join FOLW as we continue to push to get our lake and the residents around it to be Septic Smart!

FOLW Septic Survey

Task-5 of our Watershed Based Plan Development calls for FOLW to conduct a Septic system survey for residents in the watershed to participate in. Participation will reinforce community support for the project and help our chances for being awarded grant monies that we will be applying for in 2023 and beyond. The amount of grant money is limited and there is heavy competition, so your participation is crucial. Thank you in advance for your support!

Unity Pond Septic Vulnerability Study

  • The picture below outlines the different soil types that can be a detriment to the watershed

  • The GREEN areas are not receptive to septic tanks and can cause runoff into the lake

  • Please refer to the LEGEND below for more information

Be Septic Smart!

The Maine D.E.P estimates 3 to 30% of all of the phosphorous entering a lake is from faulty or unmaintained septic systems within the lake’s watershed.
