Navigational buoys

In 2001 a permit was granted by the Maine Department of Conservation to mark the many hazards that exist on Lake Winnecook. At the onset a survey was conducted to identify many of these areas and subsequently place navigational buoys to mark hazards . Currently the Maine Dept. Bureau of Parks and Lands maintains the 50+ Hazard & Navigational buoys throughout the lake. While in cooperation with the Dept. FOLW monitors them all via GPS coordinates to verify their position throughout the summer. While there is no guarantee that all areas have been identified to mark, it certainly has made the lake a little safer with their placement.

Please be aware of the different types of buoys that exist on Lake Winnecook and the significant meaning for each type of buoys.
